The more than 14,000 of Columbia

Columbia Engineering School graduating senior Ruby Robinson had an unexpected bruins surprise at the school’s Class Day graduation ceremony during Commencement week. The computer science major assumed that her father, U.S. Army Reserve Captain Keith Robinson, who has been deployed for the past six months in northern Afghanistan, bruins would not be able to attend her graduation while on active bruins duty. As it turned out, Capt. Robinson was able to receive bruins a leave from his unit and fly to New York, arriving shortly before the ceremony. As Ruby walked across the stage to shake hands with Dean Mary Boyce and President Lee C. Bollinger while receiving her degree, her father was waiting just off stage to congratulate her.
The more than 14,000 of Columbia’s undergraduate, graduate and professional students in the Class of 2014 will gather on Wednesday for the University-wide Commencement , when both of Robinson's parents will be present.

"  One of the funniest things I hear from young people, especially those who just graduated is:  I am just exhausted from college and I have to take some time off this summer vipbox to rest and re-energize before I go to work or graduate school. When we were in school we can remember the lazy days of summer interrupted by summer school, camp, chores vipbox and maybe a summer job.  So, in the interest of delivering on the title of this post, a few events from the summer that is rapidly drawing to a close, none especially memorable, but for what it’s worth. My summer vacation was spent, as always, in my old stomping grounds in Laguindingan, where I had a chance to relax, vipbox visit with family and soak up a lot of summertime baseball in the Big Manggo tree.  The highlight, of course, was the annual pilgrimage to the Big Ballyard in the Bronx on July 18, which resulted in a 9-5 Yankees win over Tampa Bay. Being what it is — basically a sounding board for Joe Fan — sports talk radio tends to tilt toward the negative, and the Mets provided plenty of that during the week. Walk-off losses were nearly a nightly occurrence during their West Coast road trip, and it was a hoot to listen to the call-in comments of highly opinionated (and, for the most part, well informed) Mets fans..
