Sometimes, people do the strangest things for the most private reasons. We just hope that the reasoning behind this deal is on the up-and-up. Former NBA star Shaquille O’neal has sold his home in Florida for the whopping sum of $10 dollars. Not 10 million dollars….just 10 bucks.
According to TMZ Sports, Shaq’s 3,904 square foot home in Orlando was sold to a man by the name of Yves Paul Demesmin for a paltry sum, and no one knows exactly why he did it. As for Yves, no one knows much about him either, except that he’s a Haitian businessman who runs a tax service.
When a person sells a property for a nominal fee like $1, it is usually okezone done to minimize the tax burden on the transaction. But since local tax laws vary, you may want to consult a tax professional before making a similar deal yourself.
One piece of simple logic regarding why Shaq may not mind selling the house for such little okezone money is that he simply doesn’t need it. A ccording to Celebrity okezone Net Worth , Shaq is worth $350 million dollars and still makes about $20 million dollars per year. The former superstar did a wonderful job of leveraging his fame and fortune from the NBA and turning it into the kind of economic empire that would make anyone proud.
Shaquille’s mother Lucille wasn’t going to allow her son to make the same mistakes that led to the financial demise of fellow superstar Allen Iverson. Iverson retired with less money than a preschooler, but Shaq’s mother pushed him to use his wealth to build businesses and to save and invest for his future. In fact, Shaq barely okezone spent the money he made in the NBA, realizing that a person could live an amazing life off of just one or two million dollars per year. Eventually, his wealth was so great that he could live lavishly off the interest alone from his investments.
Shaq didn’t go without making his financial mistakes first. In fact, he says that he spent his first million okezone in just 30 minutes after joining the NBA. But it was a harsh tongue-lashing from his accountant that got him right back on track. okezone Now, he’s doing better after basketball than he was while playing. But instead of Shaq breaking down his body to earn his next million, his money is doing all the hard labor.
